Indecent Proposal

I wanted something pithy and funny to say today, its the weekend afterall, but I am conflicted. Yesterday I took a little vacation time from work due to a photoshoot for a SL magazine and me and the photographer were the only two who showed up. Seriously. Models? If you don’t think being in print work is an honor, move aside, because there are tons of models who would jump at a chance to wear your shoos. You not only inconvenienced the photographer (I think it was 3AM for her), you inconvenienced a model who did as she was told and showed up. I realize there are times you can’t make something, we all have RL and SL commitments and conflicts, but the adult thing to do would be to notify the photographer so she can let everyone know and reschedule. It’s not just the right thing to do, its the adult thing to do. I am not specifically talking about the model my photo was to be taken with, because I am pretty darn sure she is one of the most professionally responsible models in SL, she either didn’t know of the appointment or something happened where she couldn’t respond about a delay. It’s every single other model who missed. Some of the models were even inworld at the time and just ignored the messages from the photographer. I am actually glad I am not the CEO or in any form of management of any magazines or agency’s any longer because the ignorers? You would not be employed by me ever again.

Indecent Proposal

But all that said? The take from? This isn’t my battle to fight. I get to stand on the sideline knowing I did the best I could professionally do. As for the rest, my new mantra? “Be selective in your battles, sometimes peace is better than being right” So I am going slip on something a little sexy, it is Friday and all, and I’m going to peacefully slide into the weekend. I hope you have a good one.

  1. I see this happening in productions as well.. Models who don’t bother to show up in rehearsals, or who decide to show up when rehearsal is is over and therefor ask me to give up my free time to come and explain it to them. I think it is inconsiderate and not to mention rude next to being inprofessional. Yes, sometimes rl delays you, and that can happen but there are tons of them who just don’t seem to care. It’s a change in mentality that noone should be happy with.

    1. you’re right Dragon Little because modeling jobs are scarce, but on a human level, you are known by your word in life, and if you can’t keep your word, whats that say about you? I mean you’ve been with me from the beginning, you know how many shows or jobs I’ve turned down, even ones I really wanted to be in, but knew there was a chance the time would be inconvenient to me and I didn’t want to let anyone down. You are the same way. It’s frankly, sad.

  2. I agree wholeheartedly with both above comments and the post that there seems to be a trend in this direction and needs to be brought to an end. What I have always said is that “everyone’s” time is valuable. There are no exceptions! Most of all be considerate. I think of the many options we have for communication to our little world of SL. Have a contact buddy or partner that you can email who can get word to those we need to if we are to miss something. This will certainly cut back on those who might worry over your absence. We know life is unpredictable in both places, but if you do a little planning, and do not commit to things when you don’t have a clear schedule, you will be better off. If on the other hand you miss opportunities you were chosen for and do not attend to your responsibility, then you will lose the confidence of those who hire and be left with a shambles of a career.

  3. Sadly, it doesn’t just happen in the modeling community. I left the club where I had worked for over a year because too many DJs and hosts weren’t showing up for their sets, the managers who were supposed to be watching the schedule weren’t, so I was getting frantic IMs from staff asking me to help them find a fill in (even if I wasn’t the scheduled manager), often taking both roles myself because nobody would respond to the requests for help. I, too, understand that sometimes stuff happens – delays getting home from RL work, power outages, etc, but in all of my years of working in clubs (going on 5) I have never just not shown up for a set. And the few times I have had to miss a shift for RL or other SL events, I have kept a close eye on the schedule to make sure my requests were noted.

My opinion is that a lot of people don’t take their responsibilities in SL seriously, believing it’s “only a game.” I wonder how long they would have a job if they just didn’t show up for RL work, without an explanation?

You look so naughtily sexy, lil Cao, I may have to ground you! 😉 ❤

I'm done inconveniencing electrons, any thoughts? Come on, you know you have 'em, post them up here.
