Life, Love and What Constitutes a Family

I had such a great time Saturday. Though the story is the same as when I was a young girl, the Harlem Globetrotter’s never seem to lose their entertainment value. But it’s bigger than that. We had a lot of laughs through the show but, to me, the fun is in how the players interact with their audience. It’s like going to see a show and finding out you are a member of its cast of players, a party among friends is thrown. The Globetrotter’s don’t walk out of the building after two hours of basketball, I guess you can pay a ton more and get that treatment from watching a NBA game. After the Globetrotter’s game the team mingles amongst the fans. When it was over we were walking towards the exit and we saw one of the lead players, Hi-Lite, as he was getting a picture with a family, a group of five women ranging in age from about mid-thirties to mid-seventies, he snagged my little charge the pirate princess and plopped her into the middle of this family photo and I thought how funny this was. I could just picture them looking at the photo of their special day and someone saying, “whose the little girl?” while the another responds “I don’t know but on this day, she was one of us.” And as I thought about this, it came to me. The Harlem Globetrotters aren’t a “show” or “just a game,” no, these world-wide ambassadors of peace create families. Not us and them families, just us’s, because on this day we attended a huge family reunion, filled with so many different races, nationalities and economic basis, but there were no differences amongst us, for this day, we too were globetrotters, and together we were family. I kinda like the thought of that, spreading joy throughout the world. Have a low gravity week, to all of you, my virtual family.
