Waiting on Mr. Darcy

“Never rearrange your life in order to meet Mr. Darcy half way. If he couldn’t see your worth at the moment you met then he won’t two years later. May the halls of Pemberly be filled with his regrets and your life filled with thankfulness because of this revelation.” ~ Shannon L. Alder

Someone close to me has really let me down, speaking ill of me to a close friend, to a sister really. I can’t imagine the person thought I wouldn’t hear of it, there is typically a lot of loyalty among sisters, even of sisters of the emotional sense. Especially this group since we’ve been together since we grew up in the same place. The sad part is in these situations, there is no winner or loser. Everyone is a loser. But the one thing I’ve learned in my life, these things rarely disappear, lingering like a dark cloud on a chapter of a pristine life. The pain fades, but the stain remains, just under the surface and no matter of scrubbing can make it clean again. The thing is a person who stirs up conflict or gossips about one within a group, nine times out of ten separates the close friends.

And sadly, you aren’t just affecting the person you spoke about, your words have an effect on every single person in the group. No take from today, just a moment to contemplate. I think it behooves us to stop before we say something negative, to anyone, both in real life and a Second Life, stop and ask, is this really that important in the grand scheme of things for me to say? But also, is my opinion every truly necessary even necessary? If your plan is to hurt another person, I think you probably need to check yourself. If the comment is something you feel is constructive wouldn’t it be better served spoken directly in private to the party to which the comment is about? I don’t know. Just thought I’d throw this up here and see what others think.

  1. I think folks say things in the heat of the moment (I know that I’ve done it myself and always regretted it). It’s very hard to stop yourself when your dander is up, you seem to have very little control over those heightened emotions. And then there’s the inevitable fall out. I liken it to the Oscar Wilde quote of friends stabbing you in the front – because that is so true sometimes. And it does leave a stain, even a faint one after you’ve washed the tablecloth dozens of times and there’s still a shadow of the tomato sauce someone spilled. *hhuuggsss*

I'm done inconveniencing electrons, any thoughts? Come on, you know you have 'em, post them up here.
