Picture Books Jewelry: Chop Zuey, When Elephants Dream Set

Stephen Covey once said “Every human has four endowments – self-awareness, conscience, independent will and creative imagination. These give us the ultimate human freedom… The power to choose, to respond, to change.” At the turn of the 20th century there were a few million African elephants and 100,000 Asian elephants. According to the World Wildlife Federation (http://wwf.panda.org) Today, there are only 470,000 to 690,000 African elephants, and 25,600 to 32,750 Asian elephants. Think about that, in the entire world, their population is roughly equivalent to a medium sized city. So what, it’s just a dumb animal? Naw, I truly can’t believe even the most callous individual would say that.

Did you know elephants, humans and Neanderthals are the only animals known to have death rituals? If an elephant becomes sick, its family shows compassion bringing it food and helping the creature as it tries to stand. In fact, this compassion and grieving doesn’t stop when the elephant dies, one of the most moving displays of an elephant’s emotions is how they remember and mourn loved ones. When an elephant walks past a place that a loved one died he or she will stop and take a silent pause that can last several minutes, possibly reliving memories of the family member.

These gentle giants, the largest land animal on Earth, have no shame in showing their joy either. They play games and greet family members and friends; they celebrate the arrival of newborns to their herd. In fact, not unlike humans, there is no greater love in an elephant society than the love of a mother for her child. The mother protects, guides, and nurtures her young, always close, always touching. She bathes her child by using her trunk to spray water on the little one and scrubbing it gently. In fact, the mother daughter bond often lasts more than fifty years.

Why all this? Why today? Like most things I blog these days, because I care. I was dropped a NC by another model who bought one because she cares; she left no IM, just a NC. But in the NC, Eliza Wierwight the designer of Patron had thoughtfully written out a plea for help because she cares too. For more on Eliza’s story link here: (http://www.flickr.com/photos/30500340@N06/11066955435/in/photostream/) Eliza asks such a small thing of us; buy one of her Christmas elephant topiary’s for 499L’s and 100% of the donations will go to Save Elephant Foundation. (http://www.saveelephant.org/), a non-profit organization created to save the Asian elephants from extinction. In Second Life, to make purchasing/donating easy and convenient, not only can you purchase the item’s at the Patron Main store, we have vendors set up throughout the Salimar Luxury District. This isn’t about Salimar, or about Patron, this is about life, about all creatures great and small, about our power to choose, to respond, to change. The question is, what do you choose to do? Are you willing enough to sit back and do nothing, so your grandchildren may never be able to see an elephant except in a picture book?

Take from? We all have the power within us to help others, whether its human or animal, all things deserve compassion. What better time to buy yourself a Christmas gift of an incredible decorative topiary with the added caveat the Linden’s are paid forward to help a majestic creature that needs our attention right now. They need our caring enough to do even the smallest of things. Just something to think about in this time of holiday spirit. We gladly welcome other designers willing to place these adorable Christmas topiary’s around their stores. If interested, please contact Eliza Wierwight and she will be happy to help you.

Reindeer Games

Reindeer GamesHat: 8F8, Deer Hat **Gacha Event** . Hairs: Tram, A817 . Neckwrap: .Birdy., Foxy Neck Snuggler **Gacha Event** . Backpack: Pesca, Rabbit .

Here it is, almost another new year and seems like we were just diapering 2013. What’s up with that? As far as years go, I’ve had one for the record books; my mother went to the doctor and all was well, I met a man I didn’t feel the need to stick a spork in when we were out to dinner (yet), I had a life changing surgery, my father has taken a turn for the worse and I was nominated for an Avatar’s Choice award. Well, I reckon technically two, Best Model and Best Blogger. I didn’t mention the last as a beg for votes, or as a brag, I included it as a point. Face it, we are all people. We aren’t those cartoony renderings that inhabit a virtual world called Second Life. Take away the pixel dust, and dimes to donuts there is a real live human being sitting at the keyboard, reading and communicating. All the time, whilst I went on and on about the solitary life of a Cao, my joys, comical mishaps, trials, and tribulations, you people, you “thems” out there, you listened, supported, laughed until we cried, cried just because it was needed at the time, hugged and kissed and smiley faced, but through it all you were there. Just there. Why on Earth do I call you a “them” you may ask? I’m so glad you did ask! Well, at least maybe Peep did, she’s kinda curious like that. You know them Aussie’s by adoption.

Because “thems” tend to care about others feelings, they aren’t out in the world looking out for themselves, taking care of “numero uno.” You know THAT guy, he’s a card carrying member of the “us” group. The ones who hang close in packish little cliques with their packish little ways, whispering, taunting, making fun of. Seriously, at any age, even childhood, is it even fun to torment another human being? What joy can be found in that? If you find you are unhappy with the people you associate with, take a step back and look at the behaviors you “us’s” are throwing about because sometimes it’s pretty stealth and hidden. Think about that one person who never quite makes it into an agency, or in a show, or never quite fits into the camaraderie, the very genetic makeup of the group. Now think about the groups behavior toward the person… nah, never mind, don’t worry about it, they are obviously a “them,” so who cares about their feelings anyway? Right? Does this feel familiar to your set of friends? If it does, I’d take a moment to reflect, is this the face you want to show the world? Because eventually this sort of boorish behavior is going spill to your real life too, and personally I’d shudder at being considered that kind of monster.

Take from? Of course! High gravity Monday after all. It’s in the title, reindeer games refers to any fun activities which are enjoyed only by members of a clique, the fact of which is very obvious to anyone existing outside of said clique in order to make them feel inadequate and left-out. Well, I’ve had the year from ‘ell, but even I know, the best part about being that jerk in the group, it’s not set in stone, you can move away from these behaviors and live by a more beneficial pattern. If just being good for Santa isn’t motivation enough, how about this. Ostracism, the “art” of excluding someone, sure, it hurts the object of the abuse, but studies have found that since we are social animals at heart, individuals who deliberately shun another person are equally distressed by the experience. I don’t know about you, but I think my New Year’s Resolution is going to be spending my time with those on the good natured end of the spectrum. Just a nickel of thought for this holiday season, spend it how ever you see fit. Have a great week!

Elephant Topiary (And I will get more indepth about this tomorrow) Purchase the elephant topiary at Patron or Salimar Luxury District and 100% of the Proceeds will go to save real world elephants at the Elephant Nature Park. Let’s help these majestic creatures because when they are gone, we will have lost a sacred treasure in our world.

Wild at Heart

Wild at HeartOne last look at *SoliDea FoliEs* single item auctioned outfit for 2Lei . Hair: Lelutka . Mask: LaGyo .

My more regular followers know, or may suspect, I am a writer. I love words, I’d roll around in them like a dog, if only I were able. But when it comes to poetry, I am woefully lacking, I always have been. So for this I follow a few cherished blogs. And this is where a random set of events just seemed to cataclysmically fall into place in, what I think, is a rather peacefully settling way. The Saturday before the 2Lei show, my father had another stroke, so we rushed him to the hospital and it appeared he wouldn’t get better. That Monday, one of these beloved blogs I follow, Blue Angel Wolf “Poetry Under a Hat”, forgive me for not asking to snitch your poem, ( http://blueangelwolf.wordpress.com/2013/11/18/wild-heart/ ) wrote a poem and it moved me deep inside. Having an appointment, in three days, I sent the poem to Skip Staheli (http://www.flickr.com/photos/37690108@N05/ ) asking if it would be okay if we did a picture about the poem and always the creative soul, he readily agreed. But that said, to me, having an idea was great, but I needed to come up with a style for the poem. Wouldn’t you know, one of my best friends in the world, Mila Tatham, ( http://solideafolies.wordpress.com/ ) either that day or soon after, gave me the dress that would be auctioned for 2Lei, the UN’s “International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.” It was kismet from start to finish. I expected the picture to be done around Christmas, after all I’d just taken it, but as my father’s life declined, we moved him to Hospice yesterday, Skip finished unusually quickly, somehow, maybe from some angel guiding his hand, and with the love of these people, or at least my love for them, this is my borrowed gift (since all the creative talent was given by others) to my father. Thank you all, not just these incredible creators, but you all too. After all, if you didn’t take the time to peek in here, no one would be able to see my present.

~Wild Heart~ By BlueAngel Wolf

my heart is a wild thing
being called I seek
out into the dark
into something unknown
neither goods nor gold
nor house nor hearth
treacherous bonds
or showy mirth
do I seek
or call
my wild heart
not to be possessed
or possess nor control
running in every field of death
wild as wild flowers bloom and fall
emptied to earth’s muddied patience
my wild heart
courageous in vulnerability
honouring great mystery
in cosmic soul humilitiy
blessed in both joy and sorrow
wine and roses hemlock and thorns
transparent to heaven stone-walled hell
either door I’ll love you ever more
in awe from sacred fire source
my wild wild, wild heart

I almost didn’t include a song, but I can’t help it. Today, it fits me. ❤

This Lonely View

This Lonely ViewStyle Kingdom Magazine . Capitol Couture . Photographer: Asia Rae . Models: Caoimhe Lionheart . Federica Galtier .

For the one year anniversary of Style Kingdom, the magazine teamed up with 5th Avenue Model Agency (Both of which I am a proud card carrying member of) for a spread on Capitol Couture. I’ll be honest, I don’t go to many movies, I find them loud and would prefer to sit quietly and speak with the person I am with, not have someone attempt to recreate something I would find much more entertaining in the written form, while ignoring my date. So when the theme was assigned I was at a complete loss. When I don’t know a theme, I like to google images until I find something of interest to work with. Unfortunately this topic didn’t have much variety of images and I was scared everyone would show looking pretty much alike. Eventually I stumbled upon an artist CDCBlanc’s drawings on Capitol Couture and I was instantly in love.

capitol_couture_by_cdcblanc-d4yu07pThis was my inspiration board for my outfit

The thing I want to express, especially to new models, is it’s easy to mash together multiple outfits from designer’s to create a mix and match. If you do this well, it will definitely get you “in the door” of Second Life Modeling, but in all honesty, there are a LOT of models in the door. Besides honesty and a good work ethic, one of the main ingredients to rising above the rest is to have vision. The unique ability to see the possibilities beyond the picture in the vendor. For me personally? Forget the hoopy flounces, I loved carved spaces. So right off the bat, I leaned toward the five dresses on the left of the above drawing. For the carved nature I dug into my inventory for Eshi’s Aria Pompadour. She was apparently before her time, because this outfit alone (below) would be a pretty good rendition of Capitol Couture, don’t you think? But that’s not mix and match is it?

capitol coutureOutfit: Eshi, Aria Pompadour .

The actual photo’s from the movie showed a lot of pastels, golds, blacks, one actress had pink hair, so I decided to keep it in the pink color range. I changed the texture of the hips of the outfit to a satin and recolored it white, the same with the shorts on the thighs and made the centerpiece flower pink to match the shirt I added from Mimikri’s Cami Dress. The time was spent on retexturing the skirt pieces, the rest was just pulling together the details. The gloves are also from Mimikri, the boa is Miamai, Whisper White, the hairs .Ploom. Mookie, hat is *LODE* Glitter Rose ( I THINK it was recolored too but not sure) and my shoos are Nardcotix CHLOE. I guess the point is, find one detail that inspires you, to me it will always be clothes that have a 4 dimensional feel to them, and use the love of this item to inspire you to go beyond mix and match to actual styling, or restyling if you like this term better. If you want to see some really great Capitol Couture, check out volume 5 of Style Kingdom and I have to tell you, there are a lot of styles in there that are much better than mine, so enjoy!

The take from? Yes, there is one. And it’s not even about what I wrote up there. It’s the title. Life is a solitary travel, most of us are born alone and we die alone. Holidays spent alone can be the most devastatingly lonely times a person will ever live through. If you have family, friends, or neighbors, or even acquaintances you know will be alone over the holiday, why not ask them to join you? It may be a small awkward inconvenience to you, but to them it may be a large life affirmingly pleasing moment. If you are alone, and trust me, I have been on several occasions, why not create your favorite meal, heck 5 course meal if you enjoy cooking, play some music and entertain you? I reckon you can even eat it in the dining room, on your best fine china whilst wearing your PJ’s and bunny slippers because this day, this meal, you are the guest of honor. I’ve even been known to put away the food in the pots and pans and clean it all up tomorrow. So for the day, put aside Nancy Neat and just enjoy. I hope everyone has a blessed and thankful holiday season!

Sit Down, Calm Down, and Carry On

Au.Revoir.I’ve used this at times when I am leaving something, it has served me well over the past year.

I have to admit, not doing “anything” yesterday felt pretty darn good. The down side is I have no pictures to include on the blog. And since I shoot on weekends, I won’t blog again until Friday, it kind of feels good though, like I am truly retired and can blog a life of leisure. But today, blog I must and in advance Draakje Dailey and Peep Sideshow, it will be word and peace, because I have a lot to say.

Standing Together We Can Build a BridgeWant to know what a 250,000L dress looks like? This would be it, isn’t it gorgeous? I asked the bidder why on Earth she would pay 1000US for the gown and she responded, “it’s the right thing to do for such a good cause.” I think I touched grace because she had conviction and a soft heart for good. I believe I spoke to an angel

Well, 2Lei planned; the designers, created, hemmed, pleated, and darned; the models coiffed, made up, primped and preened; the auctioneer donned his suit, studied his script and practiced his spiel; and you, the audience, emptied your bank accounts, showed up, and shared. With so many hearts giving to this project, United Nation’s “International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women,” how could it not be anything less than a smashing success? The success? 473,350L’s or approximately 1900US dollars for pixelated artistic creations of Second Life fashion design. We owe it all to you, the kind giving residents of Second Life. First and foremost, thank you!

2013

We also owe it to our designers. Without their creativity, there would be no auction to have, they were: *Chocolat** by Momokaromanomoizu, *LpD* by Nevery Lorakeet, *SoliDea FoliEs* by Mila Tatham, .::Dead Dollz::. by Kiddo Oh, AD Creations by Aliza Karu, Azul by Mami Jewell, {{BSD}} by Babychampagne Sass, C&N Designs by Thor Vespucciano, Chrysalis by Kristine Lowey, DeHat by Dellipop Cresci, Diamond Style by Teyara Mayo, Finesmith by Yula Finesmith, Flighty Pixels by Natzuka Miliandorvic, Gizza by Giz Seorn, HMAEM by Riri Bazar, In-Pose! by Trinity Graves, Kawaii Dolls by Catlyn Sahara, La Malvada Mujer by Faina Cortes, Living Imagination by Bodza Blackadder, Lybra by Lybra Rage, Lyrical Bizarre by Lyrical Bizarre, Orage Creations by Elletra Gausman, Prism by Journey McLaglen, Pure Poison by Shaleene Kenin, Romance Couture by Elseren Briana, Sascha’s Designs by Sascha Frangili, Shiki by Shinichi Mathy, Vero Modero by Bouquet Babii, Violator by Soraya Vaher, and last but not least (these were in alphabetical order) Zanze by Zzoiezee. Without your help we would not have a 473,350 linden donation and thank you for creating the unique item for this project. Your support can not be replaced.

The Trouble With Retiring is You Don't Ever Get a Day Off ~ Abe LemonsMy friend Isoldel created the pose and picture of the women helping a woman for our stage, isn’t it wonderful? Thank you Iso!

The auction could have gone on without models and the auctioneer to steer the bids, but I seriously doubt it would have as much success. Seeing the art in “living” form brought the creations to life. These people selflessly gave up four grueling, chaos filled (trust me, I know. I was exhausted) hours of their life for this cause. So first to our auctioneer Orian Wirefly, thank you. I think you could sell a Sherman tank to my gramma and we love you for it, I can’t tell you how many people IM’d me and told me they wanted to take you home with them. To the models who participated, I just love you all. It was chaotic at times, some of you were given multiple outfits until we got it all right and you acted professional through it all. You showed up, were patient and I know you had to be as tired as me half way through, but not a single person complained. So thank you to: Anna Sapphire, Averil Resident, Calima Dufaux, Chevia, Danity Mynx, Dax Dover, Draakje Dailey, Ekaterina Tolczyner, Eleseren Brianna, Eva Luxuria, Gloria Silverstone, Ivyana Szondi, Jessicaann Wrigglesworth, Kestrel Sorrowsong, Kiana Lexenstar, Leezahkaddour Resident, Linnda Scofield, Lola500 Magic, Payton Heron, Rhonda Pennell, Roxaane Fyanucci, Sienna Bellios, Silly Avro, Sungyoung Jang, Sylphia Constantine, Trinity Graves, Tyra Eiren, Yashi Audion, and Zionp Resident. You guys are my rock and I was honored to have worked with each of you. (please Lord, if I left anyone off, let them know it wasn’t intentional). ❤

inflight

And finally, on this, my last project before retirement from modeling and *SoliDea FoliEs*, I can’t think of any people I would rather have finished with but the next three I wish to thank. People don’t realize, I was really just a face, I showed up, blogged a little and that was about all of my participation, it is these three who deserve all the kind comments I’ve received. First of all my best friend in both worlds, my little dragon Draakje Dailey, who has been my savior since my first days of modeling three and a half years ago. I don’t know how it happens a little dragon takes a little cow under her wing and it’s been a long and at times rocky road, but I’ve loved every minute of it because of you. Draakje used her typical professional and excellent organizational skills to keep the models in-line and informed. And with the numerous changes in model availability, shuffling of outfits and designer issues, let me tell you, she has the patience of a saint. I’d like to thank Bodza Blackadder for her work with the designers, passing out information on deadlines and dates; you worked very hard to make this the grand success it was. Because I know personally (Mila) how hard it can be to pin down designer’s at times, they live with their heads dreaming in the clouds. And last, but in no way least, I can think of no one I would rather work with than my beloved Mila Tatham. It was my second 2Lei with Mila (and Draakje) and though at times stressful for us all, Mila kept us all focused on the good of this project, the reason for it. To stand for these women who needed us, these mothers, sisters, friends, strangers, family members, all women who through no fault of their own find themselves at the hands of abusive partners.

The take from? Sure, we can sit now but let’s not stop. Help one, empower just one woman and you could change their world forever. Violence against women is not inevitable, violence against women and girls can be systematically addressed, reduced and, with persistence, eliminated. We may not be able to save the world, organizations like the United Nations, with our help, they can do that. But we can save just one and just think how much safer the world would be if we all help just one victim. I kinda like the thought of that.

Standing Together We Can Build a Bridge

Standing Together We Can Build a BridgeOutfit is the One of it’s kind outfit that will be auctioned at Salimar and was created by Mila Tatham of *SoliDea FoliEs* and will be worn by Caoimhe Lionheart, the Lil Cao

November 25th, according to the United Nations, is the “International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women”. The United Nations Development Fund for Women estimates that at least one of every three women globally will be beaten, raped, or otherwise abused in her lifetime. For them, we choose to stand up. We will stand, not because it is a popular thing to do, we stand because it’s the only thing we can do; these are our sister’s, mother’s, girlfriends, acquaintances, women, human beings. They are even some of us. The designers and models of Second Life will stand to be heard, support, embrace, and raise up these women November 23, 2013. We will let the victims, and their abuser’s, know we won’t turn our back on them, or cover our eyes, we are here and we care. Violence against women and girls is not inevitable. Prevention is possible and essential.
