I don’t know, the day didn’t start out this way. Sometimes it’s there when you wake up, oft your day progresses normally but then at some point, some memory hidden deep in your soul, some key phrase or word from a friend or co-worker and it drops about you like a massive smothering cloak. Today I blame it on this BB King, Dave Matthews Band auditory concoction I’ve been imbibing on all morning. They always tend to bring out my more sensitive sensibilities. They make me feel, they make me think. Chains. We all have them. Responsibilites, addictions, all the pieces of flotsam and jetsam that leaves litter about the journey of our life. I suppose if we didn’t, we’d all float away into the sky. But honestly, what are we afraid of? Is floating away such a bad thing?

Take from? yes. Short blog today, I am having focus problems. And since I’ve switched to Incubus’s “Morning View” I’ve already started to break some chains, that’s my breakup album. Life is so short, and honestly it can end with the quickness of an intake of breath. Do you suppose singer songwriter Jason Molina knew he would be dead at 39? Why do we choose to suffer with all these chains? If something is making you miserable, do you really owe a continued allegiance to it? Live a life that is fulfilling, it starts with one step. A purpose driven life is more about balance. Balance the chains that must adorn you, but unlink the chains that are just weighting you down. And while your floating about, check out L’accessoires. You’ll have to excuse me, though I’ve no true excuse a’tall. Well other than I am the manager here. Kind of nice to manage something, even if it is just a small rented space on the information super-highway, isn’t it? I seem to have misplaced my day, in all honestly. It started out high gravity, I was a half hour late for real work. I’d like to blame daylight savings, but well, no, its just me. But I wont beat myself up, it is what it is, and here I am faults and all. A tip for models, for what its worth. Keep some folders in your inventory of complete outfits by styles. That way if you log in and find you are supposed to have been somewhere about 10 minutes before, you can throw on that folder that says “business casual” or “girls night out” and not worry if you are missing items like shoos or knickers. Me? Naw, I just show up half dressed, but I’ve been doing it for so long, I think they believe this is just how Cao’s dress.

These are some of the new mesh items from Nando Korobase of Angel Dessous. I tried on all the pieces and pulled out some faves. I love a comfy pair of jeans or short skirt on a high gravity day. It’s just seems to make the entire day ease away more comfortably. Don’t you think? I tried to get in Collabor today, it’s a little packed. I did cam in to grab the gorgeous hairs from M4rilyn Magic of Tableau Vivant and this groovy little flower hat from Aida Ewing of Glam Affair. But for the event itself? I think I have to write it up to places I’d like to see one day. Kind of like last weeks Gacha event. I mean really, they should let Cao’s in a few days early, don’t you think? We are mostly docile and clean up after ourselves when we leave, they probably wouldn’t even know I’d been there.

Take from, yes there actually is one today too. Some days, especially Monday’s if you find they are starting off really bad, ease back and coast a day. Sometimes it better to take a mental health day then to let the day continue to stress you and make things worse. Starting Monday I will begin to blog this event in earnest, afterall it is my favorite charity of all charitable events in Second Life. It hits me right in the heart because of my real life experiences with the ravages of cancer. But for now, me and my family at *SoliDea FoliEs* and Salimar will have a moments quiet for one of our own. Nawty Cao! –.– Heck, a ton of it was just to see if I could get a laugh out of anyone, but a part, the thinking part, wanted to do a little market research.. Forty more hits than usual. You all have something to tell me?

One of my FB/SL friends made the comment she was at a crossroads deciding if she would quit modeling or hang in there a little longer. Second Life modeling is a very tough “occupation,” a total flight of fancy for the most part. There are so many models and so little work available. You would think me of all people, the hopeless optimist, would tell her to hang in there. But to be an honest friend, I could not do so. First because no one knows whether it will get better or if the doors will continue to, in her words, “slam in her face and the people choose to toss her in the trash.” I thought on it a few days and this is what I say for what its worth. Probably not worth much. First the obvious, models in SL do not “get rich.” That said, your desire to model must be driven by some other inner need in you. Mine was/is to create art. I love fashion, I have a silly little blog so I take pics and write. I, myself had a lot of doors shut in my face but I chose to ignore this and create my name, the face of my brand, on my own. It can be done, to this day I am more Internet model than inworld.

So if you find something about SL modeling that you enjoy, perfect it. With this perfection, you WILL be noticed. If you are not noticed how you wish to be, at least you participated to your own enjoyment, not at the whim of someone else. I want to leave you with this. Why these particular photos? Most older models, but perhaps few of the new set of models, know I was in the Angel of Angel Dessous contest two years in a row. I put a lot of my heart into the contest because I love the design line. But most of all, every month I had the chance to create a new piece of art for my portfolio. link to AD flickr set: I suppose from one point of view, two years in a row “the door was slammed in my face,” but I’d be a liar to say that. Because what I earned was so much more. I earned two grand heart friends in Nando Korobase and Gina Beaumont, the designers of Angel Dessous. I earned a plush, robust, art filled portfolio, pictures I am singularly proud of. The fantasy pic’s I am even considering using in a childrens book. So, my dear friend, you do have a choice to make. I know, I know, what the heck is with the title right? But honestly, I couldn’t think of a better one for what I just read. I know, Cao’s really shouldn’t read, it makes them think too much. It’s strange really, I don’t think I speak an odd language, it is kind of a blend of southern US drawl, some Brit-speak and perhaps a wafer or two of slang from time to time, but as an active blogger, the little ditty I just read has me concerned. Well quite aghast actually. I would think when one takes the time to blog they are creating a little chronical of history, some of us a little less than others, but history all the same. So when I just read this fact, “The language of a society changes slowly but steadily with the result that an educated person will not be able to read or understand words in his language written 500 years ago” from http://www.funology.com I decided to sound the alarm! All of this writing has been for naught! Ah well, at least it explains why I’ve never been able to understand William Shakespeare. Explains a lot about my “disability” in AP English class. Take from? Yep, here it is. Laugh every once in a while and never take yourself very seriously, in 500 years they probably won’t remember what you wrote anyway.

I love to look posh and chic, that’s why I chose to wear “Elam” from Djod Karu’s *Diram*. Well, for that reason and because Draakje Dailey likes to see me wearing knickers in public. Drift.Away.

I had a pretty calm Sunday today. I have been half arsed decorating for Christmas and at the same time adding an addition and porch to my SL house, so today was a drift away day. Really no obligations to fulfill. I did attend the Passion Fashion Academy graduation and congratulations to all of those models, you did awesome! But other than that, this morning I sat around for a little bit and savored a nice cup or twelve of coffee. I had a couple of pics of some new Drift items from Kallisto Destiny that I shot last weekend, but when I saw the above pants “Apartment” pants, I couldn’t resist throwing them in, they are so me! Won’t be taking them off anytime soon, so expect to see a lot of me in them!

As a little aside, I want to thank the designer’s who do send me things now and then to consider, I truly appreciate it. I purchase most of the items I blog, so I am very grateful when I receive a little prezzy. I do want to say though, if it takes me just a little longer than you expect to blog them please know, its not that I do not like them, because I do, I Do! I just tend not to blog one designer or another, since I am retired, I like to create outfits from multiple designers, so sometimes I have to stop my brain from creating looks in my head long enough to shoot them, but also I often have real life and Second Life obligations I have to fulfill. But I try, I honestly do, to be consistent. So thank you all, always, for your patience.

Inner.Greatness.

Bo Jackson, is argueably one of the greatest athletes of our time, if not ever. He is the man who played professional baseball and professional football at the same time, but not only played, was one of the best athletes in both sports. You may remember him from the epic Nike commercials, the ones from the “Bo Knows” campaign? If interested they are probably on YouTube because this campaign with the introduction of “cross training sneakers” created for our cross training Bo, singlehandedly brought Nike to the leadership role in the athletic shoe market. Though Bo Jackson was an amazing athlete, his career was cut sadly too short by an accident in football that required a hip replacement. But the point, and there is usually a point, he is one of the humblest people you would ever meet. He felt no need to flaunt his greatness, it was just part of who he is. He was thankful and felt blessed for his talent. How this pertains to you? When Bo was asked if he would do it differently if he had known the future outcome, he replied (in my words) that he wouldn’t change a thing because in all of us is an unknown greatness and we should seek it, set the goal high and strive for the goal until we reach it. Great words, yeah, really powerful and great words. Let’s get rid of all those “I can’ts and replace them with another slogan from Nike, lets “Just do it.” Just something to think about.

Yesterday while reading Avenue magazine, if you get a chance, snag a copy, excellent photography and style! Anyway, while perusing, I came across a delightful little dress from Carrie Snowpaw of Snowpaws, jaw dropped and I squealed out an “I want! I want!” yeah, I am kinda spoiled that way. I found it, or something similar on the marketplace and while looking at Carrie’s other things, I found my perfect little high fashion angel wings. Mine, mine, mine. I hope you like my interpretation of the look. Oh, and Rusch Raymaker, you made me shop! To add a note, December 16th, Avenue’s Rusch Raymaker will be opening a new home for all of us, Zenshi. Brrrrr it’s so cold outside of my house these days..

I honestly don’t know how it occurred, I’m such a docile little Cao. But I suppose when you have a little dragon as a best friend, it’s bound to happen. I guess it’s my fault, I was the one who called her out last week on my blog, but still, she should have known I didn’t really mean it, you know? Supermodel, Draakje Dailey has been a best friend to me, wow, for so long now and she is such an asset as a friend. Besides being a kind soul, she is a literal rolodex of information, she knows who is selling what, where the LM is, and probably even the colors, so as a friend, she’s a no brainer. But I digress, yep, last week I told her I’d made a snowball and it had HER name on it. But like most Cao’s, I forgot the comment and wandered away to other meanderings.

Over the weekend, I decided to go and hang some with dragon, not unusual, we meet up all the time to check on each other, but this time, she was prepared. All in all, it was a clean fight, I think she won, if there is a winner in these things. But for all counts, it was a silly fun way to spend some time on the weekend.
