Well, Fashion for Life week is almost done. Today is the last day. I am a little melancholy actually. Something about this week always makes me miss my sister in law Kim who died from leukemia a few years ago. I think one of the saddest realizations of cancer is we can’t always save our loved ones, family, or friends. But it’s nice to know we can have a part in trying to help others, to save others. I am a little extra sad today because I set a rather lofty goal this year of six million and we are a little short. Just a little bit. It’s true I only bought one outfit from the event. I bought it this morning, but that is because as a blogger we could receive all the outfits for free to blog. But I do believe in standing behind what I am selling to my followers, this morning I went to the “Kiosk of Hope” and I dropped my Lindens in the bucket. A hundred US dollars worth actually. Because if there is even a 1 percent chance that my donation will save someone from the loneliness I feel at the loss of my best friend, I would gladly give all I have so someone else doesn’t have to feel like this. It’s not for any self-satisfaction, it’s just the right thing to do. If you find the time, please stop by. Dhá giorraíonn an mbóthar

Life’s funny. I’ve been so out of sorts all week and today is no exception. Workwise, its been a slammer. I hate it when my First Life gets in the way of my Second Life. Well to be honest, I am equal opportunity, I hate it when my Second Life gets in the way of my First Life too. Oh wait, and most of all I hate it when my work life gets in the way of my personal life! I think retirement is wasted on the elderly(sorry mom and dad). One of my mum’s most cherished memories of me is when my kindergarten teacher asked me to say what I wanted to be when I grew up to which I immediately replied, “I want to be retired.” Hey I always did like to dream big! But well, I didn’t marry it, or earn it, so here I am.

I am having a casual weekend, and I hope you all are too. Don’t forget tomorrow is the Tribute to Galliano Show, I can’t believe Fashion For Life is already winding down, last I heard, over four million has been raised. I hope you will help get the number over six million this year. This is a 100% charity, 100% of the money earned goes directly to the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life program. So come, give and receive the gorgeous outfits from the participating inworld designers. And if you can, some see me walk the runway tomorrow. I wish I could show you my “Lolly” gown from *SoliDea FoliEs* it is amazing! I know a lot of fashionista’s out there who are going to swarm the vendor for it! It is St Patricks Day weekend after all. I promised myself I wouldn’t do it, no Lil Cao thinking blogs during this Fashion for Life pre-opening week. Honestly I did try. I held it since Friday. But then there is always a catalyst. And I am, above all things, a watcher and thinker. I have a friend who is ill with Parkinsons Disease and suffers their days with debilitating pain, involuntary shaking and once a week excruciating physical therapy. In the midst of an argument the spouse of the friend complained everything that was wrong with the marriage was due to my friends disease, as if having the disease were a choice.

I held it in, well until yesterday that is. The office I work in is along the waterfront. The waterfront is a vibrant area with a marina, a few restaurants and a huge playground where families gather to let their children play. After work while driving along the waterfront my travels were mired and crawling due to policemen searching in the water for a fisherman who was killed while boating. I was very angry when I noticed cars stopping in the road to watch the process, it’s a road, quit watching and just drive! Of course, this didn’t happen, while stopped so the idiot in front of me could watch, I looked at the crowd gathered along the jogging path watching the scene unfold. People were there with their children, young children, all under five years old, looking to see a dead body. I was simply appalled! Is this something a child should see? But then, while sitting there a moment longer, it hit me. When it comes to the big picture, I am as obtuse as my friends spouse, the spectators, and the idiot driver. In my small ego-centrical way, in my worry of getting from work to home so I could walk my Jack Russell Terrior…ist, the big picture was hidden from view. Someone had lost a son, brother, father, spouse, friend, lover, or all of the above.

Take from? Yep, even this week. Cancer, like death, touches each and every one of us at some point. Whether in our own family, ourselves, a neighbor, loved one, or a friend. Are you the person who will help, or the person who will sit in your car and think about how your life has been inconvenienced by this victim? Me? I choose not to stand around and watch, I want to make a difference. Like this song, one of my favorite of all time, like The Fray, I choose to try to learn “How to Save a Life”. It is so close to the time. So close and I am so excited because this event weighs so heavy on my heart due to my best friend/sister in law dying of leukemia. I look forward to it every year, this is my third in Second Life and I hope you will lend a hand and help too. The wonderful part of SL’s Fashion for Life event is you don’t just donate, you receive a product for your donation, something you would possibly wish to buy anyway. All the designers items at donated to the charity at 100%. One person can make a difference. As stated on the RFL website, “Nowhere is that more evident than with the story of the American Cancer Society Relay For Life, which began in Tacoma, Washington. In the mid-1980s, Dr. Gordy Klatt, a Tacoma colorectal surgeon, wanted to enhance the income of his local American Cancer Society office and to show support for all of his patients who had battled cancer. He decided to personally raise money for the fight by doing something he enjoyed – running marathons.” Dr. Klatt walked the track for 24 hours straight for his patients and with his friends raised $27,000 toward the cure. Don’t think cancer is some vague disease that will never effect you. Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States alone. I personally lost my best friend/sister in law to leukemia at the age of 36 and watching the disease progress is devastating. There are many types of cancer, but all cancers start with a single abnormal cell. Abnormal cells multiply quickly. They spread to other parts of the body, invading healthy body tissue and organs, yet almost half of all cancer deaths can be prevented with early detection and treatment.

Relay For Life is the signature fundraising event of the American Cancer Society. The Relay For Life of Second Life is the largest, most successful fundraising event in our virtual world, raising more than $5.4 million in 2012. From noon March 9th 2013 to noon March 17th 2013, the biggest, boldest and most fabulous fashion event of the year will take place, helping to raise funds and awareness on behalf of the ‘American Cancer Society.’

For some off reason, perhaps it’s because I not only live in Florida, I also live very near the the oldest city in the United States, but at this melancholy time of year I always seem to think of pirates. Did you know pirates rarely buried their treasure? Kind of sad because when I was young I used to always dig on the beach hoping to find a treasure chest. All that digging was in vain. Well, I probably would have blown it all on ice cream and stuffed animals, but thats okay, the needs of a young pirate are so few. I suppose that is how I am most like a pirate, because pirates never buried their treasure because they would rather divide it up and spend it right then. Ah, the life of a pirate. And before you shake your finger at me and say “silly girl, everyone knows girls can’t be pirates” I should let you know, yeah, they can. I know of ten such women, one of which, Grace O’Malley, an Irish pirate, commanded 3 galley ships and over 200 men. Their pirate heritage is forever written in history. But, well, I’m not very strong, or fierce, I’m just a Cao, so all I do is think about being a pirate. Oh, or digging to China. Yep, that was big too.

I think this is how I dress on most days in SL. Not too flashy, and well, either in knickers or men’s pants. What does that say about me? I don’t know, I’m scared to ask. This tuxedo jacket and shirt are for women and are made by Coco. Coco has lots of new things instore so if you’re not too busy digging, check them out. The pants are for men, but I don’t care. They are the men’s tuxedo pants from Gizza, I’m tall and skeeeeny, so I can pull it off. Do I want to look all masculine, no, of course not, I am a girly girl, so I wouldn’t be caught dead without a few pieces of Finesmith’s Edina baroque jewelry, and my fave Mandala Rushana Chopsticks. Kiku San is my soul mate, he just doesn’t know it. 😉 As for the foots? I think there is nothing more divine than to feel your way in your journey thru life, that way you remember the feel of the hard times, the moments that barbed you and the times in life that soothed you.

Take from? yeah. Don’t ever let anyone tell you you can’t do something. Only you can limit yourself that way. If I’d a kept digging I’d probably be half to China by now. Just think about it, it will come to you.
