Purple Moon
I.Dreamt.of.You.
I used to watch so many old movies, I don’t really know why, I suppose in my simple way, I wished I could live in such a simple time. The most amazing thing to me about old movies is all of the smoking and drinking they did. I guess in my “enlightened” education, I find it a little shocking that smoking looked so glamorous in the Golden Age of Hollywood. I have never smoked, nor have I ever wanted to, but its kind of nice to think that in those days, they trusted their viewer to be able to “see” actors smoking and not run down to the nearest convenience store and buy a pack of cigarettes. What has become of our world? I read the other day that you can’t purchase a “super-sized” soda at a McDonalds in New York City. I don’t drink soda, but I’d like to think I am grown up enough to choose whether I want one or not. Have we become such an obtuse nation in the United States we have to be told what is good or bad, or what we can or can’t eat, drink, or inhale? Kind of a sad commentary of a nation, isn’t it?
I suppose it started with the lady who sued McDonalds and won a couple million dollars because she dropped her coffee in her lap and it burned her. I may not be the sharpest knife in the kitchen, but I don’t have to have it written on a coffee cup “this is hot.” And honestly, on these matters, I tend to think, I wish I had thought of that first, I’d be rich, if I wasn’t too embarrassed at my own stupidity to sue. All of this “deep thought” subsequently reminded me, did you know, the most common emotion when you dream is anxiety or negative emotion? Figures. No wonder I have a hard time sleeping at night. I suppose when you live your life with things labeled in black and white “dangerous hot,” or “health hazard” or “do not touch” or my favorite “don’t use the hair dryer while taking a bath” your bound to be a little anxious about bedtime. Right?
Take from? Yep, here it is. I’d like to say blame the attorney’s, but thats just too close to the truth and my take froms are usually a small note of what I want to take from my thoughts. So the real take from is, we are all instilled with some form of common sense, why don’t we just stop the madness and take back our adulthood? Do we really need to be told what is good or bad for us? I hope not! Slurls are on the “Last Known Page.”

The.Long.Goodbye.
I have been acting so spoiled. I hate it when I act this way, but I hate more to make myself play grown up and control it. I suppose it’s a major character flaw. Rather than face something I loath to face, I play ostrich and bury my head in the sand. Well, not exactly, that’s not true a’tall. Ostriches receive a bad rap on this myth; they don’t bury their heads in the sand, apparently only Cao’s do. I’ve held this picture for over a month now. Thank you Julie Hastings for creating it, I suppose I’ve let you down a little bit too by not showing it sooner, I just didn’t want to let go.
Back in November, ugh, you see that? November, almost three months ago now. Purple Moon held their “Essence of Purple Moon” contest. It’s not like I didn’t know about it, I was a judge for the semi-finals, I went to the finals and walked. Is there an excuse for not saying thank you? I’d like to think there is, but there is not. I said a “speech” at the finals, but that was nowhere near the depth of emotion I feel. I read on a blog today that to write in a sentimental form is not authentic. This statement confounded me; perhaps it was because the writer is male? I do not know I just know it made me a little bit sad because I feel sentiment is as real and authentic as dark anger; it is just the lightness of being as opposed to another’s darkness. But, well, no harm, no foul, in the end it spurred me to write what I have put off for too long.

I am the Essence of Purple Moon. Or more importantly, I was for 2012. I am no longer, life has moved on without me. Or has it? I was much honored to have been the “best on that day” and won the title, but honestly? The title? Well that’s just a little tag over your head. What I really won that day was something invaluable in a Second Life and a Real Life sense. I won a person I will forever call my friend. Poulet Koenkamp isn’t a designer, well I suppose technically she is, but to me, that is just something she does, a title over her head, if you will. What she actually is, is a wonderfully creative, outrageously funny, notoriously sentimental being of grand intelligence. What she is, is a patient friend.
Thank you Poulet for letting me be the face of your brand. I realize now, this two plus months too late that I’ve not lost my face, it’s still firmly attached to my head, I have not lost a’tall. All I have done is gained. I have gained a cherished and precious friend. A friend, who when making my International costume for Miss Virtual World asked me to explain a Korean hanbok, to which I created and emailed a ten page PDF on the subject. You received it with aplomb, probably a quiet laugh and shake of the head, but you created the most gorgeous westernized Hanbok I’ve ever seen. As the year ended, I told you how sad I was and with utmost grace, you took me aside and stressed that though the crown is gone, the friendship will never be. Thank you Poulet for your faith in me as a model and a person, for being a friend, and for caring enough for me to hold my hand as I grew up some this year.
Take from? Yep there is one. A title is a silly thing in all honesty, so don’t hate yourself if you’ve never won one. Some of the best models I know, have never won one, yet looky there, they are the best, because they work hard. (remember? Best THAT day is what wins a contest, not ability.) If you have been blessed to win, don’t take the title, the money, and walk away. Give back. It’s almost a shame you get the title before you earn it. So do the right thing and earn it after the fact. You were the best THAT day, now be the best for the entire year you wear the title. Represent with dedicated honor. You may have the title, but time will tell if it truly belongs to you. Taxi:
The.Show.Went.On.
The show, as always went on. In a one SIM runway show, with an audience and participants reaching a total ebb and flow of 80, the show went on. Amazing, resilient, with fortitude, aplomb and grace. These are just a few of the words I can use to describe the models who took time from their lives to stand with me in awareness of crimes of domestic violence and I could not be more proud. You see, most of us have become spoilt with our two, three and four SIM runway shows. Shows where the audience gets to watch the model as if gazing anticeptically at her through an aquarium glass. These models kicked it up old school, without a complaint, with much humor, and with very little attrition. Yes, almost every one of them stayed. Despite being tossed to the Gods of the Lindens several times. In quasi-runway show walkorder (I had to move them about a bit as they were whisked away by Fate), thank you with all of my heart, CC Teardrop, Kim Rongyu, Mimmi Boa, Blackliquid Tokyoska, Irina Strazytski, Draakje Dailey, Gamp Lane, Kay Fairey, Catlyn Sahara, Jen Tafler, Sessie16 Resident, Jaosi Odriscoll, Algezares Magic, Ekaterina Tolczyner, Alethia Bonham, Tai Galicia, Xia Firethorn, Laura18 Streeter, Amelia Foxtrot, Kathrin Dassin, Jessilyn Brandi, Belladonna Wexhome, Arialee Miles, Annough Lykin, and Catlyn Sahara. A special and love-filled thank you to my little dragon Draakje Dailey, for helping with strong hands, listening to me fuss at times, but always being there as the faithful friend she is. This show would have gone no where without you. I am so honored to have worked with each and every one of you! Thank you for your kind heart to bring awareness to the forefront of peoples minds this week!
But, of course, there would not be a show without the Designers selflessly removing their “labels” from their outfits so we could anonymously wear their products! And Wow! as always you all amazed me, I wish I had just a tenth of the creativity our designers have! Thank you so much for participating! Thank you Aliza Karu for your kind donation of the SIM and to you and MarkWD Hellendale for creating our wonderful black and white, yin and yang runways! A special thank you to my new friend the live vocalist and DJ Scarlet Damour, who held such patience and grace as we tried to free up some lag and thank you to an old flickr friend, Willhelm Ewing, Pyramid Cafè TV, and specifically the video shooting talent of Trisha Abbot, who with no small amount of magic, allowed us to stream the show live for the overflowing audience.
I want to extend a kind thank you to Ramonzita, I honestly do. Thank you Ramonzita for in kindness realizing the import of this show, and allowing us to forge on without wreaking havoc. Most of all, thank you to our audience. I was overwhelmed by your numbers, by your exuberance and oh so proud to stand with you as we raised awareness of 2Lei’s “International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.” We have done so little but we have done so much. If one person in all of the week picks themselves up and helps just one battered victim, we have not only raised awareness, we have won a small victory. Thank you to my reader’s as well, for not wandering away as my blog was one dimensional last week. With happiness, and a touch of sadness that the week is over, I look forward now.
Aware.

Please join us as we, women of all ages and socio-economic standards spotlight the designs of the “Anonymous Women’s Designers” of Second Life who have so kindly offered inventory for a runway show highlighting the cycles of abuse so many women endure in our world. We are women, standing up for women less fortunate than ourselves. We are women who have endured abuse at the hands of others and have found a means to break the cycle. We are women who just want to help, to highlight and showcase that we are aware of this abuse and we will find a voice to stop the abuse. Will you please join us to show you as well, want the atrocity to stop?

The Couturier’s Dock
*SoliDea FoliEs* has included the “Winter Flower” shoos that perfect match the hat and scarf released at Fashion Limited
This round of The Couturier’s Dock will be closing Sunday November 18th 2012 around 12PM SLT so don’t miss out! Many of the items have expired by selling their 35 units, but there is still some great items to be found! I think the “Winter Flower” shoos add an incredible dimension to the “Winter Flower hat and scarf”, don’t you? I simply added the still divine *SoliDea FoliEs* “Noir II” outfit to give it a hothouse haute couture feel. So take a minute and pop on over! Taxi:
What a playfully adorable romper called “Scarlett” that Pichi has included this round!
For the holiday season it’s always nice to have items available for all types of different festivities. I wore the “Scarlett” romper with a T-shirt and simple boots, but it would look equally chic with a pair of leggings, short jacket or sweater, making it completely inline with a typical current fashion trend of wearing shorts with leggings. Imagine this adorable outfit with a nice winter cap, some woolly leggings and a trim little pair of ice skates. You’d add the oo-la-la to any upbeat activity.
Even little dragons (Draakje Dailey) look simply adorable in White Widows “Anna” skirt and the exceptional mesh nails (in 4 colors!) “Rex” from Mad’
I absolutely fell in love with both the White Widow skirt and the Mad’ nails. Both designers items are high quality and a perfect addition to any model or fashionista’s wardrobe as they both play well with others on the toughest of styling assignments. All items are still unique items from the designer and will always be sold at half the price of similar items instore, so come on over and check out these and the other limited inventory found at the Couturier’s Dock. I know you will be glad you did! xo
