For Every Drop of Rain

For Every Drop of RainI’m not a Cao, I’m a playboy bunny!

Having some fun today, as a Wednesday it’s been uphill all the way. I ran by the pose fair the other day, there are so many different pose maker’s there. A ton I’ve not heard of and a few of my fave creators, but all wonderful. I picked up quite a few too. If this keeps up I am going to have to get a job.. I fell in love with this particular rain pose set from {.:exposeur:.}. The umbrella is from Handverk and is made for the set but I think perhaps any umbrella you have on hand should do alright.

For Every Drop of RainThis pose is from Del May

Well looky there, the Cao changed back! And its Spring and I know, for every drop of rain a flower grows, but not a Lil Cao. So if you’re like me, you better get some chic rain gear for the season. This adorable little rainset (includes the boots!) is a sneak peek of one of the brand new *SoliDea FoliEs* outfits Mila Tatham created for the Solo-Evane Milan Fashion Week. I’m walking in the show, so I hope you will attend. I will post up some more information when someone sends it to me. *hint* Thats about all for today because I am late posting this. So see? Sometimes even I don’t have to have an entire blog of Word and Peace. Take that Draakje! 😉

I know, I know! Another title of “alphabet soup.” I can’t help myself, as I’ve said, I love words. I’ve received a lot of positive reinforcement since yesterday when I stated at times I wish to walk away from SL.To all of you kind hearted people, you are the main reasons I stay. I’ve met so many good people in Second Life. We all have buried somewhere deep inside a good gene, we just have to wrestle it out at times, but in SL there seems to be a lot of good genetic markers in people. Or perhaps I am so sickly sweet the big meanies just choose to leave me alone. Which is fine, I am a steadfast believer sitting in the front row pew of the church of Mean People Suck. I’ve spent the morning working, my “day job” is working with numbers, so of course, my mind wanders. Oh wait, perhaps that’s why I got a grade of “C” in Trigonometry in college. One thing my friend Tai Galicia said as I was floundering around for something, ANYTHING! to blog struck me. When talking about me she said, “you style for the joy it brings.” More amazing than the fact what she said is true, is the fact she heard it a while ago, she remembered it, but I did not.

I don’t really think it’s abnormal of me to forget, I am a self confessed, “flighty” at most times, it’s why my best friend is Draakje Dailey, she has a mind like a steel trap and makes sure I am where I am supposed to be with whistles and bows. I just suppose being human, I sometimes lack true commitment. I have a hard time being given an item and being told to “style this.” It’s not how my mind works. I’ve never asked a designer if I could blog them or join their blogger group, my blog isn’t about this. I just want to see really cool things, purchase them and style. So my apathy at times stems from these moments when I have commitments to blog but really no free will to put expression in the styles. So please forgive me this week, dear designers. I am actually ashamed of myself. I should do a better job on your gorgeous designs and will put forth more effort in the future.

That said, it’s actually something for all to think about. Don’t be afraid to add little expressions of YOU to your style, it’s what makes you stand out as different. I think when we are teens, most of us, are so scared of self-expression we all tend toward a popular conformity. Wouldn’t the world be an incredibly creative place if we were more accepting of our differences in styles and tastes? Inside all of us are little “style passions,” whether it be for certain colors, materials or shapes. We all have some preferences, lets start to share them with our viewers. Personally I love what I call, colors you can taste or feel. A sweet Tangerinish orange, a chocolaty brown, a red as yummy hot as “red hots” candy. I think when you feel passionate about an element of your style, the passion translates to the look creating a passionate feel. Today’s little cocktail is from Liv-Glam and the elegant hat is Baoba. Both are available at the Couturier’s Dock and perfect for any event that needs a chic elegant appeal.

Take from? Would it be my blog without one? It’s in the title. A person of pauciloquence is one brief in speech. Having just read another version of Cao’s Word and Peace, you’d think I surely don’t suffer from it, but in real life I do. When it comes to personal style, I, like a lot of you, suffer from kakorrhaphiophobia. We fear creating our look with our own personal style preferences because we fear failure. Create the vision that is uniquely you by not being brief in the conversation of your look. Let the unique elements of your style preferences tell the story because honestly? You can’t truly fail. Self-expression, when truthful and about you is yours alone, and who can tell you its wrong if it is what you think is beautiful? Think on it a while, it will come to you. Thank you, Tai! You’ve brought me back to my focal point. I’ve a few more pics to clear away this week but next week I think I will re-explore my passion for color. Taxi:

I’ll Be A Monkey’s Uncle

I'll Be A Monkey's UncleHairs: Dura, Boy/Girl 38 . Couturiers Dock: Jewelry: Finesmith, Grapa .

I was going to stand here today on April fool’s Day and say I’ve decided to quit Second Life and this blog, but the feeling was so close to the current truth, I didn’t have the heart to put it into words. The fool’s joke would be on me because it’s an every other day thought for me some weeks. But leaving right now isn’t on the agenda for me, I’ve come so far and learned so much from other peoples comments, here and inworld, and about myself in these musings, I suppose, that leaving seems the cowards way out. You people are the best though, you honestly are, I can’t tell you how many encouraging comments and notecards I receive in a week from avatars and *wink* humans alike. It truly makes me smile and gives me the will to plod on. So thank you! I enjoy knowing you are there and knowing quite a few actually care.

I'll Be A Monkey's Uncle Hairs: Dura, Boy/Girl 38 . Couturier’s Dock: Dress: AD Creations Dollhouse, Roze . Jewelry: Finesmith, Grapa . Pose/Bubbles Set: Flightly Pixels Couture, Bubbles .

Such an odd phrase, “I’ll be a monkey’s uncle.” Do you know where it comes from? There was a legal trial in the United States in 1925, The State of Tennessee vs. John Thomas Scopes. Scopes, a public high school teacher was charged with teaching his students evolution, which was illegal to teach in state funded schools. Scopes was unsure whether he actually HAD taught evolution, but he purposefully agreed he had because he thought the topic needed to be addressed in the legal arena. What ensued was a media circus pitting modernist (people with radical beliefs of the scientific and cultural influences of the Enlightenment) against fundamentalists (those who have a strict adherence to specific theological doctrines). I suppose technically if evolution is true, “I’ll be a monkey’s niece” would be the correct descending order. Though, the way we act sometimes, I often wonder if such a mix would be an improvement to man, but deteriorate the monkey?

Take from? Yep! It’s that kind of high-gravity Monday. We all need to evolve at times, whether it’s by learning a new way of viewing the world, defining our relationship within the world or by accepting the inevitable things we may not like and living with them peacefully. Of late there has been a great deal of talk about gay marriage in the news, and being a thinker and a watcher I’ve noticed, unlike past trials, there has been almost no discussion about whether homosexuality is deserving of the public’s moral condemnation. With that rhetoric and moral discomfort gone, I can’t help but think the children of homosexual parents will finally have their voices heard. Is this good or bad? Depends on “what side of the fence” you stand on. But personally, (and this is, of course, just my thoughts for what they are worth. Not too much I am sure) I think for the sake of these voiceless children, it just may be the right thing to do and the right time to do it. Mark Twain wrote much more eloquent than I ever could when he penned, “Loyalty to petrified opinion never yet broke a chain or freed a human soul.” If your thinking of checking out the current round of The Couturier’s Dock, you better hurry, its going to be open just a few more weeks. And looky there, I’ve even included the taxi for you! Taxi:

The Couturier’s Dock

Couturiers Dock 2

Anyone who has followed me for a while knows I love to create fantasy pictures. It is one of my favorite aspects of Second Life. I’ve been a butterfly, elf, burlesque queen, hamster, children’s doll, Alice in Wonderland and many other a character. To me the fun is in the making and creating the style. I’ll be honest sometimes a style can be a month in the making because I want everything to be perfect when I go have the picture done. But even when I am not styling at the time, if I am out and about and see something really groovy and unique, I buy it and put it in a folder in my inventory called “cool stuff.” That way when I do have something to style, sometimes I already have components in place.

Couturiers Dock 2

Yesterday to get the items for these three days of blog I went by The Couturiers Dock and picked up some of the inventory for sale there. When I saw what Nevery Lorakeet of *LpD* and Blackliquid Tokyoska of Blackliquid had created I had to try a style with them together! I further challenged myself by making Caoimhe style the rest with only items in inventory. *Lpd*’s item is the really incredible skin “Annalise” with a “harlequin” feel to it. Just LOVE this! And somehow it just screamed to be topped with the Blackliquid “Eostara” hair. Both are funky, and create a memorable avatar. My hats off to both of these great designers! The items in my “cool stuff” folder included the collar from the *Doll Coco* “cardster dress joker” and the *SoliDea FoliEs* bustier from the “Marinella” outfit. I happen to love the creativity of this bustier so much I worked it into one of my MVW stylings. What’s not to love about a caged heart? Right? Anyway, I hope you like my thirty minute styling.

Couturiers Dock 2

We have a new designer joining us this round of the Couturier’s Dock. And it looks like Shaleene Kenin of Pure Poison is going to fit right in. For her first round she included this vibrant and gorgeous Jewelry set. This is a weighty piece that is a good addition to any runway show because it will be visible to the audience and is stylish to boot! All that was needed to complete this is headpiece, mask and dress by *SoliDea FoliEs* and hair from Boon! See even a Cao can be glamorous with a little help from friends!

I hope you like today’s preview (or would that be postview) of items found right now at the Couturier’s Dock. Don’t miss out on this, because when the items are gone, they are gone.. Sneaky peek, for tomorrow? It just may include AD Creations Dollhouse, Flighty Pixels Couture, BSD Designs, or Liv-Glam and Orage Creations. I hope you enjoy your Sunday, your Easter, and your family and friends. But if your looking for a place to shop today, I’ve even included the tax for you! Yeah, I’m kinda nice that way. Taxi:

The Couturier’s Dock

Couturier's Dock

The Couturier’s Dock is under way again. A new round, YAY! Lots of gorgeous pretties there too, so don’t miss out. I’ll cover some of the items the next few days, but I wouldn’t wait if I were you, the items are half the price of the mainstore and there are only 50 units of each item being sold. Today I’m doing something I don’t typically do, blog a skin, but Aleida Rhode of Elysium has been a friend of mine for a few years now. In fact a few years ago I was in the Face of Aleida finals. I didn’t win, no surprise since it was before I ever went to a modeling school, but I wouldn’t have entered the contest if I didn’t just love her creativity. This is the “Fei” skin in pale, and it is a gorgeous Asian skin. As a person who never changes skin, I can tell you honestly, this will be one of my preferred skins from now on. I instantly fell in Love with it.

Couturier's Dock

Some of the other items I have on are from The Couturier’s Dock, so let me highlight them as well. The above is the Molly dress from HMAEM. It’s a gorgeous mini-length that includes matching shorts for underneath. The gold belt is included!

Couturier's Dock

And above we have the scrumptious jewelry by Finesmith Designs and the darling BB dress from *SoliDea FoliEs*, which includes the adorable sunhat! Perfect for an Easter Sunday picnic, don’t you think? Well, I won’t spend a lot of time today, I know everyone is busy with family festivities. Take some time this weekend to enjoy those around you! A weekend of family and friends is always a weekend well spent! As an aside, all of these poses these next few days are from the pose fair going on right now. So if you get a chance definitely check them out like I did today, lots of great poses on sale.

My Mind Quiets as I Play

My Mind Quiets as I Play

I actually took the day off from blogging seriously and it feels wonderful. Every now and again it happens. The words fade away. I think its because I’ve had a rather stressful few days both personally, professionally and Second Lifely. The perfect maelstrom of forces pulling me every which a way and requiring undivided attention that I do not have. So instead of beginning to blog items for The Couturier’s Dock, now that the SIM store is in place and ready to launch today March 29, 2013 at 1:00 PM SLT, I decided to step back and play a little. A month or so ago Belle Roussel of Chop Zuey (the jewelry store), gave me a folder full of her items. I told her at the time, I’ve so little time to spare, I don’t really blog individual designers anymore, but she kindly told me not to worry about it to just play with them from time to time because she liked my style. I thought that the grandest compliment! Thank you Belle.

My Minds Quiets as I Play

So today when I decided I just wanted to play with windlights and photography, I pulled on Chop Zuey’s Rocinantes Curve, styled around the pieces and headed over to Neva Crystall’s Neva River SIM. Such a gorgeous place, if you get a chance stop by there before it’s closed off again. As you may know, in Don Quixote, as written by Miguel de Cervantes, Don Quixote named his skinny little horse Rocinantes. There was much thought by Quixote in naming the horse. “Four days were spent in thinking what name to give him, because (as he said to himself) it was not right that a horse belonging to a knight so famous, and one with such merits of his own, should be without some distinctive name, and he strove to adapt it so as to indicate what he had been before belonging to a knight-errant, and what he then was.” Rocinantes is much like Don Quixote in that he is awkward, past his prime, and engaged in a task beyond his capabilities. Just like me this week. Don’t you love it when all the pieces fit together without fore thought!

My Mind Quiets as I Play

I spent an hour snapping pictures, refocusing my soul, and relaxing. My mind has quieted while I played. The take from? Yes. Don’t force life to happen, it will happen anyway. If you find you are just getting further and further behind. Stop, play a while, enjoy the view. You may never quite catch up to where you should be, but honestly, on the last day of your life, do you really think you will care? Life is about living. Have a wonderful weekend! I am feeling so much better about my day, I even included the taxi for you! Chop Zuey:

Baby.Booties.and.Being.There.

Baby.Booties.and.Being.There. If my mama sees me like this she’s going to librarian me upside the ‘ead with the dictionary

I’m at the age where all my friends are starting to have children. I decided a few years ago I wasn’t going to have any. No, I’m not defective, it’s my family, they are. About four years ago I asked my mum if she’d watch Katy (my Jack Russell Terrior-ist) for me while I went away for a weekend. I thought how bad could it be, I mean she raised me right? What a great weekend it was, practically “childless” and free to come and go as I pleased. But when I went to pick up the dog, she was hiding under the baby grand piano that tortured me as a child, hyperventilating like she was running the marathon. So like every good “mother” I asked my mum what the deal was, to which she replied without missing a beat, “she’s okay, she just swallowed three of my estrogen tablets from my nightstand.” Right away I decided there were two things I wouldn’t rush into, childbirth or menopause.

Baby.Booties.and.Being.There. Hey, Cao’s can Daisy Mae with the best of them. 😉

I digressed as usual, back to my friends. I don’t suppose it’s off-kilter to want children at a certain age, though I don’t really believe in the biological clock thing, why hurry in your thirty’s? I see forty something women having children all the time. My sister was one of those. At some point I suppose I was disappointed they all decided to get married or have significant “others,” I mean after all, I’m still not sold on the fact that the boys have cooties thing is all myth. But good friend that I am, I went along with them anyway and embraced all these men in their lives. If not genuinely, than at least figuratively I accepted they were mostly there to stay. This new chapter though, to me it’s overwhelming. They talk about cycles and child-rearing and tell me often enough I should have one too, that I don’t have to have a man to have a child. Huh? I must have been so embarrassed in that particular sex education class all the blood rushing to my face clogged my ears. What a novel concept. But I think I’ll wait though, I mean heck, I forget to feed myself often enough, I can’t imagine having the responsibility of feeding a little Cao. Sorry if this post it too much information, it’s actually tongue in cheek. Mostly. I suppose this new really sexy skirt from Leezu! has my mind a wandering and it filled the blog with some random absentminded thoughts today. Now, if I can just find where I put those birth control pills. Katy?

Take from? Naw. Even I can’t find one today. I did include the LM to Leezu! though, that should count for something. Taxi:

Social Media Meme

Social Media MemeMy mum would love this pic, I look so serene, so elegant. In other words, so un-Cao

Strawberry Singh posted another meme, this one Social Media Meme with the hopes we can connect and meet each other, so if I am long winded, blame her not me. 😉 If you get a chance, do one of these and please, send me the link. I’m always looking for new people to stalk erm, nicely follow, from a distance of course, I guess, if I have too..

What was the first social network you joined using your SL Avatar?

Flickr in May 2010.

Which social networks are you currently on using your SL Avatar?

Social Media MemeOne word for this dress, (It is Desir’s FFL offering) the word? Divine!

If there are some you are listing above that have private timelines or you prefer not to add too many people to, just make a note beside them please because I will be going on a stalking following spree when I read your posts!

Which network is your favorite?

I used to think flickr, I was a SL flickr model way before I became an inworld model. I love my flickr friends and the talent there but I find it to be a little “wieldy” for my tastes. I always want to go and see everyones work, it just takes too much time. So I think I enjoy and spend most of my time on Facebook these days. I can chat there, see what people are up to at a moments glance, like their artwork. Meet knew people.

Social Media MemeI could so sport this hairdoo in RL, I sware, its what I look like in the morning when I go to sleep with wet hairs

Which network is your least favorite?

At this moment, I’d have to say Plurk. But thats just because I don’t “get” it. As an example, for some reason it says I am from New Orleans, Louisiana. I don’t know where the information came from and I can’t figure out how to change it. So on Plurk I am a Lil Cao lost in Louisiana. If someone can come find me and lead me home to Florida, I’d appreciate it. Well, a lot.

Which network do you have the most amount of connections?

I’d say Facebook. Not really sure where they keep coming from, but boy do they. Last I looked I have 1,698 friends, most of whom have friended me. o.O (I know right? I wonder why too.) I hope there is never a test like in elementary school where everyone says their name and the next person has to say all the names that were said before them. Um, I just might fail, by catastrophic proportions actually. But Facebook works, I’ve liked all the people I’ve met, so far.

Social Media MemeGot the dress, all I need is the man.. Anybody have an extra one?

How/Where do you usually read/use most of your networks?

/me whispers “on my work computer.” hahaha just kidding! Dang! On my Nook or android. *blushes*

What are your favorite social networking apps? (if applicable)

On my android I use WordPress and Facebook, and a little Flickr. Can I say here, I just love Pinterest? I put all the styles I love there so I can see them when I want to try and style something new and, wait for it, EPIC. But also, it shows an evolution of how my tastes change over time. And of course, it puts up an official Lil Cao’s wish list for all my rich friends out there who want to buy me a little birthday prezzy.(May, it’s May 😉 ) Oh! and I will always stand by my mantra, you can never go wrong with a pair of Jimmy Choo’s..(that would be a size 7)…

What do you like most about social networking sites?

Being able to keep up with my online friends weekends and weekdays without being attached to a mouse. I tend to ramble, and I don’t just mean with words, though that’s been said, dutifully noted, and discarded Draakje Dailey (xo). I like to see pictures and read blogs my friends have written while I am running like a mad Cao about town. People in Second Life have always been able to drop me an IM to email but I actually have a lot of “real life” blogs I read and respond to (as opposed to those only written about SL, who’d a thought there even was such a thing?) so social networking has helped me keep in touch with those friends too.

What do you like least about social networking sites?

I hate those people who constantly nag or complain on their pages all the time. I check in to see whats fun, whats news, but not the “what ticks me off” complaints about friends, neighbors, politics. I can find that stuff right around me in the real world. But if you want to show me a bucket of puppies, the most adorable baby in the world, or the whackiest of cats, that just makes my day!

Do you feel social networks are a good way to promote you/your brand/your work?

I do think social networks are an excellent way to create your brand! Ask any model I’ve ever spoken to, brand recognition is my numero uno rule. See, Eyes smart, I’m a multi-national Cao, I speak a smattering, a very minute smattering, of Spanish). When I was in college we did a lot of studying on viral marketing. I did a research project on Scion. When Scion came out, their marketing budget was about zero. If you remember there were, and still are, very few TV commercials for Scion. They rely heavily on “on the street” guerilla marketing, viral marketing and word of mouth. But their success with social networking is a model for many of us, including a silly little Second Life model who just wants a recognizable face as her “brand.”

What is your main reason for using Social Networks?

Like Strawberry Singh, they were at first to promote my blog. But to be honest, now I love them for their own worth. I love feeling connected wherever I am. I love, laugh and sometimes even cry with my friends there. I enjoy finding blogs of new people, learning new things, laughing with the ups and sometimes even the downs, we all go through and share with one another. I love seeing the wonderful photography there, I am soooooo glad my friend Skip Staheli joined Facebook, I’ve been missing so much of his craft from bypassing Flickr. Hands down, it gives me a connection to the people I am missing when I am not in Second Life.

Thank you all for putting up with me, I can’t think of a single person in either life whom I don’t like. Isn’t that just crazy? But it is so true. You all bring me different things, laughter, smiles, love, likes, knowledge. You’ve all gleaned a little bit of it all on me. I just adore you all! Thank you each and all for being you, the people who make my social media medium the enjoyment that it is. And thanks Strawberry Singh for making me face these questions. I was daunted at first, but I pulled through. In the words of one of my social media friends Aliza Karu, \o/

Recently I was reading a message board for an agency I am a member of and was a little taken aback by some of the scathing remarks written there. Written in so public an arena too. I read it, and tucked it away for later thought, I am above all a thinker and a watcher. But even more important, I am a business person with a business degree. But this isn’t business, or is it? It is an agency that promotes Second Life business, but that’s not really the point. The point is in the blind world of virtuality on the Internet, you are relating with people you have no true knowledge of. So whether it’s business or personal you have to accept, people have squabbles and “issues”, and when someone airs their squabbles, do you really want to get down and sully yourself like a Sus scrofa in the mud? is it truly necessary? Does the issue pass the Cao three question rule for responding? I know! I bet you’ve never heard of such a thing! It’s like this, “wow, that person just said something about me that might make me look bad, I can rip him/her a new one and defend myself. Or I can calmly ask him to better explain his issues because that is not quite the way I remember the event transpiring (the moral high road). To make my decision I ask myself: (1) Is a snarky condescending confrontation truly necessary? In the grand scheme of things will this be such a huge issue in one month? Two? A year? (2) Is this something I can solve by explaining peacefully with the readers of the forum without calling the offending party out? If I just explained the issue calmly from my own point of view, without rash judgments of character, who will look like the idiot then? (3) Would it be better solved by trying to reach an agreement with the offended without further adding to the already public display?

The take from? Well of course, its in the title. Most fits of anger in a virtual climate are typically begun by a misunderstanding of words, tone of words by the receiver and the sender, or in this case, non-words since the person was accused of ignoring the vocal party. Take the time and try to resolve issues behind doors, even if you have been attacked in front of those doors. Why? Because that’s what adults should do. People, associates, family, your children, they don’t need to see you onstage. Whether your argument is in real life, a second life, a personal life or a business life, keep it between the key players. The title? Testudinate is of or relating to the turtle, detritus is actually non-living particulate organic material, but I use it loosely to mean the sloughing off of dead layers of relationships, the baggage of things gone wrong. As you may know, turtles can breathe out of their, well, arses. Don’t handle things by talking out of your arse, always attempt to minimize the detritus by being open, honest and face value about your concerns. If you do, in the end, the “audience” will admire that you did so. All Landmarks for the style are under my “Last Known SLURL’s page.” Check them out, I know you will find the perfect item to express your style!
